THE GREATNESS OF A NATION AND ITS MORAL PROGRESS CAN BE JUDGED BY
THE WAY ANIMALS ARE TREATED - MAHATMA GANDHIJI
Hi my dear bloggers and new
found friends am back to blogging and this time my blog is about animal abuse.
Animal abuse is one of the most
alarming and important issues to be addressed with utmost priority by the
Government of India. India a country known for kindness, compassion and love
has now become bankrupt of values. Human beings have completely forgotten to raise their voice for the voiceless. Animals
have always been pushed aside and have been neglected as there are no
strong laws to protect animals from being abused.
Animal abuse starts from home
when dogs are dumped on the streets by irresponsible pet owners for various reasons. Dogs that are dumped on the road are picked up by breeders and are
bred unethically until they are drained and once again left on the streets when they are of no use .
Apart from getting dumped on the road dogs face more cruelty. In countries like China & Korea they are used for human consumption as
dog meat. The similar incident of dog meat was on the news recently where 1000
kg of dog meat was seized in the Egmore railway station by the Indian railway officials.
Animals such as pigs, goats and camels are being slaughtered mercilessly
by the butchers, cows are being impregnated over and over again in the dairy
industry to yield more milk .
Hens in the poultry industry
are impregnated over and over again to yield eggs faster they are kept in
barren battery cages which is smaller than an A4 size paper and are also
debeaked from pecking each and each other.
Other than domestic animals
wild animals such as Tigers & Elephants are also abused not only in circus
but also in other public places.
Let’s take the example of Sri
Racha Tiger Zoo in Thailand where Tigers are drugged to be numb and pose
for pictures patiently & harmlessly to the public. Elephants are abused all over the world in various ways to entertain people they are beaten , starved and kept in unhygienic pathetic
conditions leading them to physical & mental illness.
The term animal abuse not only
means harassing animals in the above mentioned ways it also means encroaching
their habitat by human beings. Depriving animals from allowing them to live in
their natural habitat freely & happily is a worst kind of cruelty.
Let’s take the case of Avni-
Avni the majestic cat was brutally murdered by the hunter ( Shafat Ali Khan) in
Maharashtra . The main reason for Avni's death was due to man animal conflict
where a private cement factory needed Avni's home to expand their
company.
Despite huge social media
campaign and repeated request to the Government we were unable to save Avni . Instead of tranquilizing and sending her to the sanctuary she was brutally
murdered leaving her cubs stranded with no food and motherly car. With no
proper answers to provide to animal activist the case was hastily covered up by
the forest officials by conveniently blaming Avni as a deadly man eater .
A few weeks ago after the death
of Avni there was yet another tiger that was murdered in the Dudhwa district. A few days later two tiger cubs were run down by a train in Maharashtra. The reason
for frequent death of animals is because of humans encroaching their space for their own selfish needs.
My dear friends I would hereby
like to conclude by stating that animals are no less than human beings and they
have equal rights to live in this world . As responsible citizens let's
embark on a journey in saving them by understanding their feelings ,emotions
& needs etc. Let us give them the much needed safety , security , love and ensure that they run freely and happily and live a comfortable life
Thank you.
