Are Holidays only for Humans?
As a child a visit to the Zoo was the most exciting outing
we could ever have.
Be it summer or winter vacation a visit to the zoo was mandatory.
Watching our favourite animals such as ferocious Lions, majestic Tigers,
playful Monkeys & gracefully dancing Peacocks in close proximity was
something very fascinating.
But we failed to understand the dark truth behind the
pathetic lives of animals in the Zoo. My dear new found friends, animal lovers,
animal enthusiast and fellow bloggers the main reason for me to pen down this
blog is to expose the unethical & inhuman treatment of animals in the Zoo.
I was extremely saddened and depressed to read the article on Times
of India dated 6th May 2018 regarding no weekly holidays for the Chennai
zoo until the end of summer. Animals in the Zoo are not happy and peaceful as
you think.
They are confirmed to small, filthy & unhygienic cages attracting
deadly parasites such as ticks, fleas etc which causes severe skin
infections in their ear, tail, neck, anal & groin areas. These
parasites not only attack animals but also human beings. Animals are also malnourished,
forced to adapt themselves to the unnatural temperatures and deprived of their
freedom and privacy.
Summer is the most horrible season for humans & animals. More
than humans it adversely affects animals who suffer a lot. But unfortunately the summer season is one of the peak season for
the Chennai zoo authorities to mint money as people throng in the zoos just to
scream , mock, and knock the glass enclosures of animals for nothing
.
Animals in the zoos get terribly stressed which leads to Zoochosis - (A disease caused in
animals in the zoos due to physical & mental stress.) . These kinds of stress
further lead to aggressiveness and as a result they lash out at human beings by
not only injuring them also by killing them.
It is definitely a myth that zoo provides
us an opportunity to learn about the varied species of animals, their habitat
and behaviour etc. What was initially started off as a place of
enlightenment has now become a place of entertainment.
My dear friends considering the deteriorating physical &
mental health of the animals we as responsible citizens with humanity shall urge
to take the much needed extra step ahead and educate the Chennai Zoo
authorities to declare weekly holidays to the Zoo.
Animals are no less than human beings, they need their much needed
break, freedom privacy etc. my dear friends as “Mahatma Gandhi "
rightly quoted the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can
be judged by the way its animals are treated .
We as a nation have excelled in the fields of technology, education,
arts & what not, but we have miserably failed in the field of humanity
to animals. Let us all come forward and take stupendous effects to safeguard
our fauna and also excel in the field of humanity to animals.
Thank you.
